The inspiration of Hugh Royer III and his family continues… I first met Hugh on the practice tee at Shaftesbury Glen Golf & Fish Club five years ago in October 2014 while he was instructing a junior golfer… and then again last year at the 2018 World Am giving an inspiring speech about preventing skin cancer and if it happens owning your own healthcare to beat skin cancer no matter the odds or the diagnosis… after 30 radiation treatments and 7 surgeries in 9 months beginning in May 2018 he was back better than ever (in life & golf combined IMO) at the 2019 World Am 19th Hole… the cancer (basal-cell) was a bump on his nose that followed a nerve under his eye to one centimeter of his brain… but no matter the cancer whether basal-cell, squamous-cell, or the more aggressive melanoma… know the truth… all three can kill you… our clothing is our No. 1 protection against skin cancer… use natural/organic sunscreen and apply every 2 hours… last year the lives of 3 million people were changed forever with the diagnosis of skin cancer… this year the projection is 4.25 million… not going in the right direction… protect yourselves, those you love, friends and strangers…

Hugh competed in the Monday Qualifier for this years’ PGA TOUR Champions Dick’s Sporting Goods Open. He missed making the tournament proper but his friend Doug Barron Monday qualified and went on to win for the first time in his career in only his second Champions event! Sort of a yoga “two suns rising… one in the sky and one in our hearts if we let it…” moment for me… two champions in golf and life… both succeeding on different stages… for now… who knows what tomorrow will bring?
Most likely more inspiration from Hugh Royer and his family… May God Bless them richly!
