With Marcio & Vitor at Buzios Golf Club & Resort!

With Marcio & Vitor at Buzios Golf Club & Resort!

A memorable day playing another great Pete & Perry Dye-designed Buzios Golf Club & Resort golf course complete with the island green par-3 17th! Warmly hosted and joined on the course by caddie-turned-golf professional Vitor Pessanha. It was an honor to meet owner Marcio Modiano whose father Umberto had the vision and started the hotel (1979), marina (1986), airport (1987) and golf course (1996) project! If you are anywhere near Rio de Janeiro this is a definite “must play” during the day (golf course) and night (Buzios nightlife)!

JTOG Day 94: Staying at Atlantico Buzios Resort & Convention!

There are some resorts and good times that don’t need to be remembered as they seem to immediately and eternally become a part of your life journey and story! Taking the bus from Rio to Buzios, a scenic and exciting two-hour bus ride, and staying two nights at the Atlantico Buzios Resort & Convention was certainly one of those life experiences for me! Just look at these pictures of the Atlantico! Literally right on the beach, a beautiful beach and in the heart of the quaint, historic, and scenic Buzios itself! I love all the statues and remember the nightlife and having fun meeting people from all over Brazil and taking a long walk and exploring the beach and meeting more interesting people. Plus there is a Pete and Perry Dye-designed golf course of the same namesake not very far away! If you are ever in Rio de Janeiro you must visit Buzios and stay at the Atlantico! Please tell them all I said hello!

JTOG Day 93: Meeting Beto Chiclete, Brazil’s First Tee Guy!

_Andy leaving donated golf equipment with Beto ChicleteI met Beto Chiclete by destiny yesterday… I had heard of a “First Tee-like” junior golf initiative in Japeri and wanted to visit there, do a feature and donate my golf bag, clubs,e tc. before leaving Brazil… looked it up on the map and learned it was 90 km away, way to far to navigate and fit in this trip… so I go to Gavea Golf Club to play golf and who is my caddie? Amazingly small and connected world even when one is far from home! Beto is one of the great good guys in the world of golf and the world beyond!!! (-:

Andy Reistetter, was a great pleasure to be his caddie at the Gavea Golf Club, this video shows my work with the golf with children, started in Japeri now I’m in Nova Iguaçu giving opportunity to the needy children of the Baixada Fluminense in learning golf. thanks and a hug Beto Gum. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yxr6hOibSd0 (Translated by Bing)   (Facebook Link, Andy Reistetter, 1/12/14)

TROML Day… spent the afternoon with Hall of Famer Roberto De Vicenzo at Ranelagh Golf Club in Buenos Aires, Argentina… what an inspiring person at age 91! Flying to Rio de Janeiro, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil tonight for the last stop in South America on the “Journey to Olympic Golf.” To the site of the 2016 Summer Olympics (what’s a World Cup?) and the Olympic Golf Course we go!!! The world lost a great golf legend today- Roberto De Vicenzo! I had the honor & privilege to spend an afternoon with him interviewing him in Buenos Aires at his home Ranelagh Golf Club. “You have to fight for your life,” said Mr. De Vicenzo to me and it has always stuck with me since that day in January 2014 on the ‘Journey to Olympic Golf.’ Winner of the 1967 Open at Hoylake he was the ‘Champion Golfer of the Year’ and for his lifetime. He bet on himself, a 70:1 longshot and won 70,000 pounds, a huge amount fo money 50 years ago! The club put me up the night before. I arrived late, after dark, so I walked down the street in the little village to get something to eat. Even the pizza guy, not even a golfer, knew who Roberto De Vicenzo was, not as a golfer, but a great citizen of Ranelagh! I treasure the book he inscribed to me and the round of golf on the classic 1920 Alberto del Solar Dorrego design. My heart goes out to all his friends at Ranelagh, especially the ones I met- Valeria Biondi, Paul Morey, Gustava Nisenson, Juan Carlos Cabrera, Walter Dobie, and that young good golfer I played with- Martin Flor for their loss. God Bless Roberto De Vicenzo- a golf legend and a great man of Argentina!   (Facebook Post with video highlight, Andy Reistetter, 6/1/17)

With Paul Morey, Roberto De Vicenzo's longtime right hand man and Ranelagh historian. What a great conversation we had! Eternally grateful for hosting me Paul!

Roberto De Vicenzo, Golf Legend… just reminiscing a bit more about visiting Ranelagh Golf Club and meeting Mr. De Vicenzo. That was 3-1/2 years ago. I actually stayed in Room No. 1 in the Chalet that Roberto’s wife Delia’s family lived. I think they were the caretakers of Ranelagh and that’s how they met when Roberto was a young pro just starting out. Clubhouse full of priceless memorabilia! TROML time for sure! Flew to Rio de Janiero that night for the last leg of the 2013 ‘Journey to Olympic Golf.’ My heart goes out to all his friends at Ranelagh, especially the ones I met- Valeria Biondi, Paul Morey, Gustava Nisenson, Juan Carlos Cabrera, Walter Dobie, and that young good golfer I played with- Martin Flor for their loss. Arriving at Córdoba Golf Club… also known as the El Plato and El Gato Club as evidenced by the entrance sign!

Three day visit to Córdoba Golf Club was awesome, great people, great golf course, great club! Felt the beating heart of present day Argentina golf… guest of El Plato (Angel Cabrera’s Foundation), met and interviewed El Gato (Eduardo Romero)… WOW, what a golfing town in a golfing country! Stayed at this incredible La Casa Grande right across from the 10th green, a golfer’s place to stay if there ever was one! Heading to Rio de Janeiro, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil tomorrow! Then Orlando on the 17th! I cannot believe this is Day No. 88 of the “Journey to Olympic Golf.” Time flies by, doesn’t it? welcome 2014! (-:   (Facebook Post 15 Pics, Andy Reistetter, 1/6/14)

Cordoba Golf Club, Home of El Gato & El Plato

Argentina, without a doubt is the “home” of golf in South America! No different than St. Andrews, Scotland is the “home” of golf for the world. After all the Golf Channel Latin America has their studios in Buenos Aires. The only World Golf Hall of Fame member south of the US border is the great Argentine golfer Roberto De Vicenzo who lives near Ranelagh Golf Club south of country’s capital. If Argentina is the “home” golf in South America then it follows that in the modern era, Cordoba Golf Club is the “home” of golf in Argentina. When you arrive at Cordoba Golf Club you quickly realize it is the “home” of El Gato, Eduardo Romero and El Plato, Angel Cabrera.

Being invited to play Cordoba Golf Club through El Plato, Angel Cabrera’s charity foundation and having the opportunity to meet and interview El Gato, Eduardo Romero was quite an honor and privilege. On top of that I staying at the quaint five-guest room La Casa Grande literally across the street from the tenth green. For now this amazing experience is captured in the following pictures, broken up into three albums- the golf course, El Gato & El Plato and the great amateurs to play out of Cordoba Golf Club like Roberto Monguzzi. More words and videos (interviews and beauty shots) to come! Enjoy!

JTOG Day 86: La Casa Grande is the Place to Stay in Cordoba, Argentina!

La Casa Grande is a sleepy little golf hideaway across the street from the 10th green at Córdoba Golf Club

La Casa Grande is a sleepy little golf hideaway across the street from the 10th green at Córdoba Golf Club

Is there anything better than staying at a golf resort? I think so because I found it when I visited Cordoba, Argentina to play the home course of Angel ‘El Plato’ Cabrerra and Eduardo ‘El Gato’ Romero. La Casa Grande is right across the street from the par-3 10th green so you know it is within a driver of the beautiful clubhouse at Cordoba Golf Club. It’s a special place–warm, friendly, comfortable–like that 15th club in the bag we always need to be able to make a special shot to complete a special round. While extremely convenient that is not the reason to stay here, it is more the experience! La Casa Grande is the place to stay in Cordoba, Argentina!

JTOG Day 84: Having Lunch in Buenos Aires & Making New Friends!

_ Andy Reistetter w Zulmira Simoes Lunch in Buenos Aires 1-2-14My new Canadian/Argentina/Portugal friends I met at “the office” yesterday afternoon in Buenos Aires! The waiter set up a table for me near the only electrical plug (unplugged the Christmas tree) and I couldn’t help but intrude on their lunch with them sharing their dessert with me.
